Senior Program Manager

As a generalist reporting to a Senior Program Director, the Senior Program Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of intermediary engagements, supporting the development of and overseeing the implementation of new opportunities, and serving as a resource in their field(s) of expertise.  Immediate assignments include supporting grant programs with the LA County Development Authority, LA County Office of Sustainability, and First 5 LA.

The Senior Program Manager will be expected to:

  • Co-design, oversee, and implement day-to-day activities for intermediary programs for grantmakers and government agencies
  • Plan content for peer-learning gatherings, trainings, and conferences
  • Design, manage, and implement logistics for program operations, grantmaking, and events
  • Oversee project budgets and provide necessary information for invoicing and reporting
  • Provide detail-oriented project management including use of various platforms and tools such as Submittable, Trello, and Zoom.
  • Work with staff colleagues to develop, document, and deliver curriculum for training and workshop modules; facilitate peer learning opportunities
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor program and administrative staff, oversee consultants
  • Prepare reports, budgets, correspondence, proposals, and other documents
  • Keep abreast of current trends and issues in Los Angeles nonprofit, philanthropic, and government sectors, and emergent approaches in organizational and leadership development
  • Manage various projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years of relevant work experience in nonprofit program management, leadership development, racial justice work, public policy, public health, public administration, program development, community development, civic engagement, organizational or community capacity building, evaluation, philanthropy, or other relevant field(s)
  • Lived experience in a community traditionally under-represented in nonprofit leadership roles
  • Experience leading complex government-funded contracting or grant initiatives, a nonprofit, or a startup venture a plus
  • Experience and/or comfort with operating in knowledge organizations and thought partnership roles; a creative and a reflective thinker
  • Experience working with diverse groups and in a team environment, with a collaborative and consultative style
  • Familiarity with the landscape of LA’s nonprofit, philanthropic, and government sectors and/or prior experience managing an LA County contract a plus
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and written/oral communication skills
  • Community Partners staff are working in a hybrid environment, with teams working in our offices at The California Endowment several days each month; this role requires the ability to travel locally, with occasional overnight travel to meetings or conferences outside the LA area
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience a plus

Compensation

Salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000 depending on experience. Benefits include paid holidays, sick days, and vacation, paid winter holiday closure, a 403(b) plan with employer match after two years, medical, dental, vision, flex spending, life and disability insurance, and a range of professional development opportunities. Vice President of Grants, Contracts and Risk Management

The Vice President of Grants, Contracts and Risk Management is responsible for supporting and protecting the legal interests of the organization and its fiscally sponsored projects (FSPs) and intermediary programs.  A member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), reporting to the CEO, this position will lead a team in all aspects of contracts, grants and risk management for FSPs and intermediary programs.  This includes opportunity assessment, preparation and review of contracts and grants, negotiation with funding partners, regulatory and contract compliance, and risk management for FSPs and intermediary programs.

This is a growth area in a dynamic, team-based environment and requires an exceptional leader with a strong legal mind and proven abilities to direct and contribute to initiatives and processes within and across the organization. This leader must also support the larger organization as a strategic collaborator across all functions with a purposeful pursuit of mission and results. This position is hybrid but must be in the Los Angeles office 2-3 days per week. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Negotiate, write, review, summarize, research, and execute a wide variety of agreements and business contracts, ensuring compliance with applicable public sector statues and regulations, private funder restrictions and Community Partner protocols and procedures.
  • Manage governance and compliance issues including compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This includes developing and maintaining a strong equity-centered compliance culture throughout the organization.
  • Periodically review, update, and develop contract templates in accordance with changes in applicable law and organizational processes/priorities.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with CP colleagues and fiscal sponsored projects as needed during negotiations and/or contracts and grants approval processes.
  • Oversee all risk management initiatives and programs which includes 1) the administration of various lines of insurance and 2) safety programs that ensure the well-being of employees, volunteers, independent contractors, and clients of the organization.
  • Build positive, effective working relationships across CP functions and with fiscally sponsored projects.
  • Participate in the definition and development of organizational policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provide support and training to management on legal issues and company policies.
  • Work closely with outside counsel regarding legal issue strategy and resolution as needed.
  • Collaborate vertically and horizontally throughout the organization and with external funders and partners.
  • Establish a continuous improvement environment for the team and across the organization to drive more effective completion of the team’s and organization’s mission.
  • Advise and inform stakeholders of legal, risk, and/or compliance considerations (including internal controls, policies, and procedures) as it relates to intermediary programs, fiscally sponsored projects.
  • Responsible for the supervision and leadership of a four to eight-person team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a corporate legal or law firm environment in the area of business agreements and contracts law.
  • Experience with charitable agreements and charitable purposes contracts is a plus. At least 3 years of experience managing and leading a team of employees.
  • Experience in leadership and management at an organizational level.
  • Graduate of an accredited law school and admitted to and in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Experience in public sector and non-profit regulations and law strongly preferred.
  • Must have a demonstrated knowledge and experience of applicable laws related to contracts, charitable grants, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience with contract management systems.
  • Ability to provide a high level of responsive customer service.
  • Proven ability to independently lead and execute all facets of legal and risk management matters.
  • Ability to effectively exchange ideas, concepts, facts, and data with diverse audiences.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Highly collaborative and consultative work style.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Finance Associate

Reporting to the AR Grants Manager, the Finance Associate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of awards (i.e. contracts, grants and charitable contribution) for financial reporting and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, Local regulations, and funder specific regulations, in addition to assisting with system implementations with regards to internal controls, audit compliance and accounting policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial management (Revenue Cycle)

  • Managing a portfolio of awards (i.e. contracts, grants and charitable contribution) for financial reporting and ensuring compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and funder specific regulations.
  • Performs all grant-related post award functions including, but not limited to: budget and expense analysis, monthly grant and contract invoicing, labor distribution charges, final cost reports, and associated communication with Grant/Fiscal/Program Liaisons
  • Performs general accounting activities, including reconciliations, entering billing into the AR module in the financial system, assisting the AR Grants Manager, during audit, journal entries for cost allocations, and month end close of AR
  • Resolves any issues regarding grant invoices, including disallowed expense, technical issues, or unpaid invoices; communicates with fiscal contacts at funding sources for information needed and problem resolution
  • Ensures supporting documents (payroll/expenses/vendor invoices, etc.) align with billing and

budget, and comply with contractual and/or regulatory stipulations.

  • Prepares schedules as requested for annual audit; maintains grant information for funder and participates in audits and reviews by funding agencies as required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • High level of experience with Excel required; experience with Accufund, Certify, Paylocity, and Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Must be adaptable and comfortable working collaboratively.
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple, competing deadlines.
  • Familiarity with funding from government agencies at the Federal, County, and State levels.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality required.

EXPERIENCE

  • Requires at least two (2) years of grant management and/or Non profit grant accounting experience.
  • Requires bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field from an accredited institution or a combination of education and related work experience.

COMPENSATION

Position range $65,000.00 - $70,000.00

Senior Director, Public Sector Financial Compliance

Reporting to the CFOO, Community Partners seeks a Senior Director, Public Sector Financial Compliance, who will be responsible for compliance on all public sector funds. This individual will oversee the entire life cycle of public funding and will work with fiscally sponsored projects to assist with management of public sector grants.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for compliance on all public sector funds
  • Lead all aspects of public sector funding life cycle: application, negotiation, management, reporting and close out
  • Monitor sub-recipient compliance
  • Work with fiscally sponsored projects to prepare and help them manage public sector grants
  • Oversee intermediary finance staff
  • Work with external auditor to prepare and manage single audit.
  • Manage other federal audits
  • Design and maintain internal controls for public sector funds including workflows for approving reconciling invoices
  • Stay current on all GAAP and public sector regulations
  • Train all relevant staff on key compliance regulations

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the nonprofit sector with public sector grant management.
  • Experience with managing single audit (A-133).
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as an acute ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with AccuFund or other accounting software.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and collaborate with program staff and others across the organization required.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality required.
  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business-related field, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree.
  • Must possess a minimum of ten years of work experience in accounting or finance.

 

COMPENSATION

Position range $105,000 – $140,000 DOE
